General information about Glacensis Euroregion

Glacensis Euroregion was created on the 5th December 1996. General Contract establishing Euroregion was signed in Hradec Králové by The Association of Kłodzko Land Communities and Regional Association for Cooperation of Czech, Moravia and a Kłodzko Land Border Regions after many years of efforts of  Polish-Czech activists on both border sides. It was the first only Polish-Czech Euroregion. The seat for the Polish secretariat is in Kłodzko, whilst the Czech seat is situated in Rychnov by Kněžnou.

The main goal of Glacensis Euroregion is to support the Polish-Czech border cooperation and development of the border region in relation to geophysical, historical and political conditions. The Polish side of the Euroregion contains Dzierżoniów, Kłodzko, Strzelin, Wałbrzych and Ząbkowice districts. On the Czech side activity applies to the following districts: Náchod, Rychnov by Kněžnou, Hradec Králové, Trutnov, Jičín, Chrudim, Svitavy, Ústí by Orlicí, Pardubice, Jeseník and Šumperk. Currently the members of the Polish side of  the Euroregion are 34 authorities of  border  communities and 3 districts. On the Czech side the members are 109 towns and communities and also the following districts’ authorities: Královéhradecký, Pardubický and Olomoucký. The name Glacensis comes from Latin and symbolizes a mutual history of the region.

The permanent goal for Glacensis Euroregion is to overcome stereotypes and barriers generated in past times and to support the process of integrating Poland and Czech Republic into the  European Union. We plan to restore the state border function as a bridge for meetings and co-functioning both nations and not as the end of a sovereign state territory for dynamic development and creating permanent and friendly contacts for both nations. Euroregion is a partner for this process, it identifies cross-border tasks and searches for effective solutions in the issues of cultural, social, economic and infrastructure initiatives.
